Human Aortic Smooth Muscle Cells-Diabetic Type I support diabetic vasculopathy and vascular remodeling studies in cardiovascular disease models.
Human Aortic Smooth Muscle Cells-Diabetic Type I are primary cells isolated from the descending aorta of clinically confirmed Type 1 diabetic donors. Cryopreserved at early passage, these cells exhibit characteristic spindle-shaped morphology with hill-and-valley growth patterns. These cells serve as a classic in vitro model for investigating smooth muscle cell response to hyperglycemia and diabetic vascular aging in smooth muscle cells, and have been identified as critical contributors to diabetic macroangiopathy, including accelerated atherosclerosis, aortic aneurysm vulnerability, and microvascular complications like nephropathy due to AGE-mediated medial degeneration and ROS overproduction. This population expresses disease-relevant surface markers CD44 and RAGE. They also exhibit upregulated MMP-9 and LOX-1 expression alongside suppressed contractile markers, while maintaining diploid karyotype stability. Repeated freezing and thawing should be avoided during culture. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Human Aortic Smooth Muscle Cells-Diabetic Type I serve as a pathologically relevant in vitro model to study diabetic macroangiopathy in conditions like accelerated atherosclerosis and aneurysm vulnerability. Their pathological AGE-RAGE signaling enables study of MMP-9-mediated extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation and hyperglycemia-induced contractile dysfunction. Researchers can utilize this model to evaluate drug-eluting stents, screen AGE inhibitors, and develop targeted therapies for diabetic plaque instability and medial degeneration, aiding therapeutic exploration in diabetic cardiovascular complications.
