Description

Human HIV Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) are a heterogeneous population of immune cells isolated from the peripheral blood of HIV-infected patients, mainly including lymphocytes (such as T cells, B cells, NK cells) and monocytes. They exhibit typical round mononuclear lymphocytes and monocytes morphology, grow in non-adherent suspension culture. PBMCs play an important role in immune response where T cells mediate cellular immunity, B cells produce antibodies, and monocytes differentiate into macrophages or dendritic cells to participate in antigen presentation. HIV infection destroys CD4⁺ T cell function, leading to immunodeficiency, and then triggering acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). In addition, PBMCs serve as reservoirs for latent and active HIV, contributing to viral persistence. In translational research, HIV PBMCs are widely used for immune cell phenotyping, analysis of T and B cell dysfunction, monitoring disease progression and inflammation, and evaluation of immune-modulating and PBMC-based therapeutic strategies.

Application

  • Human HIV Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells can be used as an in vitro cell model to study viral pathogenic mechanisms. They can also be used to analyze HIV-specific T cell responses, including the killing activity of CD8⁺ T cells and CD4⁺ T cell dysfunction. Besides, these cells can be applied to study the role of B cell antibody production and monocyte-derived antigen presenting cells in HIV infection.
