Description

Human Meningeal Cells (HMC) are primary fibroblastoid cells isolated from the leptomeninges (pia and arachnoid layers). These cells exhibit the classic elongated, spindle-like morphology in 2D culture and grow as a cohesive monolayer. They positively express meningeal markers including ICAM1 and SLC38A2. Meningeal fibroblasts contribute to extracellular matrix production (e.g., collagen I/VI) and interact dynamically with adjacent CNS vasculature and immune cells, influencing brain repair, inflammation, and barrier integrity. Cells are provided at early passages and cryopreserved. Due to their non-immortalized nature, these cells have a limited lifespan in culture and should not be passaged indefinitely. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Human Meningeal Cells are an excellent model for investigating neuroinflammation, blood–CSF barrier dysfunction, and meningeal fibrosis. They support in vitro studies of cytokine-mediated responses, fibrotic ECM deposition, and crosstalk with microglia or endothelial compartments. These cells are particularly useful for studying how meningeal fibroblasts regulate T-cell entry into the central nervous system and contribute to pathologies such as meningitis or post-injury scarring.
