Description

Human Ocular Choroid Fibroblasts (HOCF) are primary cells derived from the stromal layer of human choroid tissue. Following collection, the cells are cryopreserved at an early passage. These spindle-shaped cells retain a typical fibroblastic morphology and exhibit expression of vimentin but lack RPE markers. They produce extracellular matrix (ECM) components such as collagen I and III, contributing to the fibrotic response observed in conditions such as neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and subretinal scarring. As primary human cells, they possess a limited proliferative lifespan and are unsuitable for long-term or immortalized expansion. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • These Choroid Fibroblasts are ideal for modeling extracellular matrix remodeling, fibrotic scar formation, and angiogenic signaling in ocular diseases. They are extensively used to investigate subretinal fibrosis in AMD and to test anti-fibrotic or anti-angiogenic compounds in vitro. Their ability to secrete VEGF upon cytokine stimulation provides a robust platform for dissecting inflammatory crosstalk in choroidal pathology.
