Human Renal Medullary Epithelial Cells offer a model for renal physiology, tubular function analysis, and medullary epithelial toxicity assessment.
Human Renal Medullary Epithelial Cells are isolated from the kidney tissue of healthy human donors. Cryopreserved at early passage, these cells grow in adherent culture. They play a critical role in urine concentration, water and electrolyte balance regulation, and acid-base homeostasis, with relevance to studies on medullary cystic kidney disease, nephrogenic diabetes insipidus, and renal ischemia-reperfusion injury. They express cytokeratin 18 and exhibit a normal human karyotype. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Human Renal Medullary Epithelial Cells serve as an in vitro model to study renal medulla-related disorders like acute tubular necrosis and medullary cystic disease. For example, by examining their role in urine concentration, osmotic regulation, and molecular pathways (e.g., aquaporin signaling), they enhance understanding of medullary epithelial functions and pathological changes, aiding in exploring treatments for renal medullary diseases.
