Species: human, Caucasian male adult; Tissue: skin; Tumor: melanoma
IST-MEL1 is a human cutaneous melanoma tumor cell line originally derived from in situ skin tumor tissue of a Caucasian adult male patient with malignant melanoma of the skin. It exhibits an epithelial-like morphology and grows as adherent monolayers in standard culture conditions. Genomic analyses show that it is microsatellite stable (MSS) and harbors a clinically relevant BRAF p.Val600Glu (V600E) mutation, a driver mutation that activates MAPK signaling in melanoma biology, along with TP53 alterations associated with tumor progression. As a malignant melanoma model, it provides a platform to study tumor cell proliferation and oncogenic signaling in skin cancer. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

IST-MEL1 cell line is used as an in vitro model of human cutaneous melanoma for investigating tumor cell proliferation, BRAF-driven signaling pathways, and drug response mechanisms. Their characterized genomic profile supports studies in targeted therapy evaluation and pharmacogenomic profiling relevant to melanoma research.
