Rat lung. Rat embryonic lung cell line which has been known to produce IFN.
JTC‑19 (also known as RLG‑1) is a rat embryonic lung fibroblast‑like cell line derived from lung tissue of a 3‑day‑old Rattus norvegicus (Fischer strain) and deposited in RIKEN BRC, where it is described as a fibroblast‑like adherent line with documented interferon-producing capacity. The cells exhibit typical fibroblastic morphology, are adherent in culture, and maintain a diploid chromosome range suitable for extended in vitro expansion. JTC‑19 has been used in studies of interferon biology and lung fibroblast function, reflecting its utility for investigating cytokine production and fibroblast responses. Evidence for tumorigenicity or metastatic potential in vivo is not reported in primary references or databases. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are tested to ensure they are free from contamination by Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

JTC‑19 is used as an in vitro rat lung fibroblast model for studies of fibroblast biology, cytokine‑associated signaling, and interferon-related responses, including gene expression analysis, cell signaling pathway investigation, extracellular matrix remodeling, tissue repair mechanisms, and virus–host interaction studies. It supports investigation of cellular proliferation, extracellular matrix interactions, and pharmacological evaluation of compounds affecting fibroblast function and cytokine production in respiratory cell models.
