KM12C is a human colorectal carcinoma cell line originally established from a Dukes’ stage B2 colon adenocarcinoma of a male patient and is a poorly metastatic derivative within the KM12 family of colon cancer cells. The cells grow as adherent epithelial-like carcinoma cells with a near-diploid karyotype and exhibit chromosomal instability (CIN), which is characteristic of the chromosomal instability pathway in colorectal tumorigenesis, distinguishing them from more aggressive metastatic derivatives such as KM12SM and KM12L4A. These features make KM12C a representative model of low metastatic colorectal carcinoma biology. Genetic and expression profiles reported for KM12C are based on published literature and database records reflecting tumor evolution and cytogenetic patterns. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV‑1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

KM12C is used as an in vitro model of human colorectal carcinoma for studies of tumor cell proliferation, chromosomal and microsatellite instability, and early tumor progression. It supports examination of genetic and cytogenetic evolution in colon cancer, comparative analyses with metastatic KM12 variants, and evaluation of anti‑cancer agents in preclinical CRC research.
