Description

Normal human mesothelial cell strain LP-9. The culture was initiated on 10/1/83 by directly plating an ascites fluid cell suspension which had been stored frozen since removal from the peritoneal cavity of an ovarian cancer patient on 9/2/81. The culture medium must be supplemented with 10 nanograms/ml EGF and 0.4 micrograms/ml hydrocortisone. The cell morphology is fibroblast-like in medium supplemented with EGF, but is epithelial-like in medium without EGF. The karyotype is 46,XX; normal diploid female.

    LP-9 cells are not immortalized. It is recommended to limit passaging to 20–30 times to maintain stable phenotype. Upon receipt, cells should be banked at low passage for future use.
