Description

Monkey Aortic Fibroblasts (MAFs) are primary fibroblasts isolated from aortic tissue of the Cynomolgus Monkey. These cells exhibit a spindle-shaped morphology typical of fibroblasts. They produce extracellular matrix (ECM) components including collagen types I and III, fibronectin, and elastin, playing crucial roles in vascular remodeling and repair. MAFs contribute to aortic wall integrity, ECM homeostasis, and wound healing through paracrine signaling and cell-matrix interactions. MAFs typically express the fibroblast-associated marker Vimentin, a commonly used marker for fibroblast identification that can be detected by immunofluorescence staining or related molecular assays. Cells should be cultured according to AcceGen’s recommended culture conditions. To ensure the quality of these primary cells, repeated freeze-thaw cycles are not recommended due to the fragile nature of these cells. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Monkey Aortic Fibroblasts are widely utilized in biomedical research due to their relevance in primate-specific cardiovascular disease modeling. Their primary applications include studying vascular remodeling mechanisms, particularly in atherosclerosis, aortic aneurysms, and fibrosis, where they contribute to excessive extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition and inflammation. They are employed in in vitro assays to investigate fibroblast-endothelial or fibroblast-smooth muscle cell crosstalk, crucial for understanding vascular wall dysfunction.
