Leverage NRK EGFP2-Nup50, a stable cell line expressing EGFP2-Nup50 with 50% expression, ideal for studying cellular transport and nuclear functions.
NRK EGFP2‑Nup50 is a clonal, stably transfected rat epithelial cell line derived from normal kidney (Osborne‑Mendel strain). These fibroblast‑like cells have been engineered by integrating a circular plasmid encoding an EGFP–NUP50 fusion protein, with approximately 50% of the population expressing EGFP‑tagged nucleoporin at the nuclear pore. The cells exhibit fusiform, adherent, monolayer growth. Their stable expression of EGFP‑NUP50 and retention of typical nuclear pore morphology make them ideal for live‑cell imaging. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from mycoplasma, fungi, yeast, and bacteria.

NRK EGFP2‑Nup50 serves as a powerful tool for studying nucleocytoplasmic transport and nuclear pore complex dynamics. Its stable EGFP-tagged NUP50 allows real-time live-cell imaging using techniques like fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP), fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS), and dynamic localization studies. Researchers utilize this line to dissect molecular mechanisms of nucleoporin assembly/disassembly and to assess nuclear transport perturbations relevant to cancer, neurodegeneration, and viral infection. Its transfection stability and robust growth also make it suitable for high-resolution microscopy and quantitative assays in cell biology research.
