Description

Porcine Lens Epithelial Cells (PLEC) are primary epithelial cells isolated from the anterior surface of the lens in healthy swine. The cells originate from normal ocular tissue and are harvested under sterile conditions. They form a monolayer of cuboidal cells tightly attached to the lens capsule and exhibit adherent growth in vitro. These cells are cryopreserved at early passage to preserve viability and phenotype. Functionally, they regulate lens homeostasis, electrolyte balance, and fiber cell differentiation. PLEC express lens-specific markers such as αA-crystallin, connexin-43, and N-cadherin, which indicate epithelial identity and lens-specific function. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures and is tested to ensure it is free from contamination by Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • PLEC are valuable tools in ocular research for studying lens epithelial biology, including homeostasis, differentiation, and repair. They are used in disease modeling of cataractogenesis and drug-induced lens damage, as well as for evaluating therapeutic compounds targeting oxidative stress and epithelial regeneration. These cells support investigations into lens-specific responses under physiological and pathological conditions, providing a reliable platform for pharmacological screening and regenerative medicine studies in vision science.
