TGF beta 1 (TGF-β1) is a multifunctional cytokine regulating growth factors, tissue homeostasis, immune responses, and ECM-associated activation.
TGF beta 1 (TGF-β1) is a member of the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) family. Latent TGF beta 1 is the inactive precursor form of transforming growth factor β1. Proteolytic cleavage is the most important cellular mechanism for the activation of latent TGF beta 1. TGF beta 1 binds to the extracellular matrix (ECM) via Latent TGF beta binding proteins (LTBP). LTBP is a component of the ECM, therefore proteolytic cleavage of LTBP can lead to the release of latent TGF-β1 from the matrix. TGF beta 1 is a multifunctional cytokine involved in development, tissue homeostasis, and immune regulation.
