• Trypan blue is a dye used for staining dead cells blue in cell viability assays and as a surgical aid in eye operations to highlight structures like the retinal membrane and lens capsule.Trypan blue can also stain collagen and amyloid proteins. The complex formed by trypan blue and protein emits red fluorescence. Furthermore, trypan blue (at appropriate concentrations) is often used to quench cell surface autofluorescence or other fluorescent signals.
