Mouse Esophageal Smooth Muscle Cells from AcceGen are isolated from tissue of pathogen-free laboratory mice.
C57BL/6 Mouse Esophageal Smooth Muscle Cells are primary cells isolated from the muscular layer of the thoracic esophagus and abdominal esophagus of pathogen-free laboratory mice, serving as an ideal model for histology of mouse esophageal smooth muscle and endoscopy of smooth muscle in mice. These cells are primarily localized within the inner circular and outer longitudinal muscle layers of the esophageal muscularis propria. Following primary culture, these cells are cryopreserved. These cells orchestrate peristaltic contractions via Ca2+-dependent actomyosin activation and regulate lower esophageal sphincter (LES) tone for unidirectional food propulsion. Studies demonstrate their implication in gastroesophageal reflux disease, achalasia, and eosinophilic esophagitis. Phenotypic validation is performed with α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), demonstrating their contractile function. Repeated freezing and thawing should be avoided during culture. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

C57BL/6 Mouse Esophageal Smooth Muscle Cells can be used as a valuable in vitro model to study the pathogenesis of esophageal motility disorders in disease conditions such as achalasia and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). For example, by employing these cells and investigating molecular pathways, researchers can elucidate disease mechanisms including impaired lower esophageal sphincter (LES) relaxation, aperistalsis, and inflammation-driven fibrosis.
