CM-DiI is relatively stable, and its fluorescence is resistant to photobleaching, allowing for extended imaging times without significant signal loss.
CM-DiI is a lipophilic carbocyanine fluorescent dye widely used for labeling cell membranes in biological and neuroscience research. It readily incorporates into lipid bilayers and lipid-rich structures, producing strong red fluorescence upon membrane integration. CM-DiI is commonly applied in studies of cell migration, cell tracking, and axonal projection in both living and fixed tissues. Once incorporated into the plasma membrane, CM-DiI remains stably associated, shows minimal lateral diffusion, and is highly photostable, making it well suited for long-term imaging and lineage-tracing experiments.
