Utilize HEK293 for high-efficiency transfection, recombinant protein expression, and adenoviral vector production in human embryonic kidney–based systems.
HEK293 cells are immortalized human embryonic kidney (HEK) cells derived from healthy human embryonic kidney cells in 1973. Immortalization was achieved by introducing Ad5 E1A and E1B genes, which interfere with cell cycle control and inhibit apoptosis. They exhibit epithelial morphology, typically appear as adherent, flattened, and elongated cells, forming a monolayer in culture. HEK293 cells are well known for their rapid growth, r obust adhesion, and exceptional transfection efficiency, making them a cornerstone of molecular and cellular biology research. They express moderate levels of endogenous human proteins and are widely used in studies of receptor signaling, ion channels, and gene expression. HEK293 cells are also ideal hosts for viral vector production and biopharmaceutical protein expression.

HEK293 cells are a human embryonic kidney–derived cell line generated by adenoviral transformation. They are easy to culture and highly transfectable.
HEK293 cells are commonly used for recombinant protein expression, gene function studies, signal transduction research, and viral vector production.
HEK293 cells were originally derived from human embryonic kidney tissue and immortalized through adenoviral DNA integration, enabling continuous proliferation in vitro.
