HEL-299 cell line is a human embryonic lung fibroblast model used extensively in virology and cellular biology studies for biomedical research.

Description

HEL-299 is a human embryonic lung fibroblast cell line derived from fetal lung tissue. The cells exhibit typical fibroblast morphology, grow as adherent spindle-shaped monolayers, and demonstrate contact inhibition. Chromosome analysis indicates a diploid karyotype, although minor structural aneuploidies may be present. HEL-299 is non-tumorigenic and lacks viral transformation markers, making it appropriate as a normal control line for pulmonary and cytotoxicity research. The line is widely used in toxicological assessments, virus replication studies, and tissue modeling. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • The HEL-299 cell line is a non-transformed fetal lung fibroblast cell line widely used as a normal control in pulmonary research, toxicology, and virus-host interaction studies. It supports studies in tissue engineering, wound repair, extracellular matrix interaction, and cytotoxicity assays. Its finite growth properties and diploid karyotype make it suitable for comparative studies with transformed or cancerous counterparts.
