CAFs are a crucial component of the tumor microenvironment, influencing the biological behavior of tumor cells by secreting a variety of cytokines, chemokines, and extracellular matrix proteins. This includes promoting the proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of tumor cells, while also participating in immune regulation within the tumor microenvironment.
