KATO III human gastric carcinoma cells from age 55 Asian male show spherical morphology, tumorigenic, p53-negative,CEA-positive, useful for stomach cancer.
KATO III is a human gastric carcinoma cell line derived from a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. These adherent cells exhibit epithelial-like polygonal morphology and form tight clusters in culture. Widely used as a model for diffuse-type gastric cancer, KATO III cells express epithelial markers such as cytokeratins and E-cadherin, though E-cadherin expression may be reduced or altered, consistent with their invasive phenotype. They harbor typical gastric cancer genetic alterations, including TP53 mutations and MET oncogene amplification. KATO III cells also secrete mucins and express gastric cancer-associated markers like carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA). This cell line is valuable for research on gastric cancer biology, tumor invasion mechanisms, and chemotherapeutic response.

KATO III is a human gastric carcinoma cell line extensively used in cancer research. It supports the screening of compounds that induce apoptosis or exhibit cytotoxicity in gastric cancer cells. Additionally, it is employed to identify drug candidates for treating digestive tract cancers, especially in overcoming chemotherapy resistance. This cell line is instrumental in advancing therapeutic strategies for gastric malignancies.
