L132 Human cervix carcinoma cell line, derived from embryonic lung, is widely applied for enterovirus isolation and hepatitis virus sensitivity studies.
L132 is a continuous human epithelial cell line derived from embryonic lung tissue. Although not derived from a cancer patient, L132 is widely used in tumor-related studies due to its immortalized phenotype. The cells display epithelial morphology with polygonal shape and adherent growth pattern. L132 cells are negative for major oncogenic driver mutations but overexpress cytokeratin 8 and 18, Bcl-2, and p53, markers associated with immortalization. Despite these features, L132 cells are non-tumorigenic in immunocompromised mice and show no metastatic potential. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, mycoplasma, fungi, yeast, and bacteria.

L132 cells are widely used in research on respiratory toxicology, pulmonary drug delivery, and viral infection studies, especially those involving adenoviruses or respiratory pathogens. Due to their epithelial-like characteristics and lung origin, they provide a practical in vitro model for inhalation toxicology and epithelial barrier function. Additionally, L132 cells have applications in cancer research due to their transformed nature and expression of oncogenic markers. They also serve as transfection hosts for protein expression studies.
