Species: rat newborn; Tissue: skeletal muscle; Derived from: L6 cell line
L6C5 is a rat myoblast cell line derived from the L6 cell line, originally isolated from newborn skeletal muscle of Rattus norvegicus. The cells display elongated spindle morphology, grow adherently, and retain the ability to fuse into multinucleated myotubes, similar to the parental L6 line. L6C5 is widely used as a model to study muscle differentiation, contractile protein expression, and myogenesis. They express key myogenic differentiation markers such as MyoD and myogenin, reflecting preserved myogenic signaling pathways. L6C5 is non-tumorigenic and does not form tumors in vivo. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

L6C5 serves as a reliable in vitro model for skeletal muscle biology, including myoblast fusion, muscle regeneration studies, metabolic analysis, and testing compounds that influence muscle growth or differentiation. It is particularly suitable for reproducible in vitro assays assessing myotube formation, metabolic responses, and muscle-related pharmacological screening. Its close similarity to the parental L6 line ensures reproducible experimental outcomes.
