Description

Rat Aortic Fibroblasts (RAoFb) are primary mesenchymal cells isolated from the aortic tissue of rats. These spindle-shaped, adherent fibroblasts robustly express extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins—such as collagen I, collagen III, fibronectin, and elastin—which contribute to aortic wall structure, stiffness, and remodeling in both developmental and pathological contexts. Their phenotype is characterized by expression of fibroblast-specific protein 1 (S100A4), confirming their activated, ECM-producing state. Functionally, they respond to vasoactive stimuli like angiotensin II and urotensin II with increased proliferation and ECM synthesis, and exhibit ECM remodeling dynamics under altered oxygen tension. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures and is tested to ensure it is free from contamination by Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • RAoFb are widely used to study vascular remodeling, ECM dynamics, and fibroblast activation in cardiovascular research. They serve as in vitro models for investigating the effects of vasoactive agents such as angiotensin II on collagen deposition and fibrotic signaling. RAoFb also support studies on aortic stiffening, hypertension-induced remodeling, and oxygen-sensitive fibroblast behavior, making them suitable for drug testing and fibrosis-targeted therapeutics.
