Description

Rat Brain Cortex Astrocytes are primary glial cells isolated from the cerebral cortex of pathogen-free rats under strict aseptic conditions. Morphologically, they display a classic stellate shape, with extensive process branching, which is typical for astrocytes, and grow as adherent monolayers. Functionally, cortical astrocytes are key regulators of synaptic activity, blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity, and neuroinflammation. Primary rat brain cortex astrocytes are critically involved in maintaining ionic homeostasis and responding to central nervous system (CNS) injuries through cytokine release and scar formation. Immunocytochemical analysis confirms their expression of astrocyte-specific markers including GFAP and S100β. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Rat Brain Cortex Astrocytes serve as a robust in vitro model for studying neuroinflammation, glial-neuronal interactions, and CNS pathologies such as Alzheimer’s disease and epilepsy. They are widely employed in drug screening platforms for evaluating anti-inflammatory agents and neuroprotective compounds. These cells also support co-culture systems and BBB models to elucidate astrocyte-mediated signaling and metabolic coupling.
