Description

Rat Brain Cx-Hi-Cp Mix Astrocytes are primary glial cells isolated from the cerebral cortex and hippocampus of neonatal rats under sterile conditions. Morphologically, they display polygonal or star-shaped processes and grow as adherent monolayers in culture. Astrocytes play vital roles in central nervous system (CNS) homeostasis, including metabolic support, blood–brain barrier maintenance, synaptic modulation, and neuroimmune responses. Mixed rat brain astrocytes are crucial for modeling neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and epilepsy due to their contribution to neuroinflammation and gliosis. Rat astrocytes commonly express canonical markers GFAP and S100β, confirming their identity. They are non-proliferative under standard conditions and not recommended for subculturing. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Rat Brain Cx-Hi-Cp Mix Astrocytes provide an established in vitro platform for investigating neurodevelopment, neuroinflammation, and CNS injury. They are widely used to study astrocyte-neuron interactions, glial scar formation, and cytokine responses in neurodegenerative disease models such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and stroke. These cells are also ideal for co-culture experiments and drug screening assays targeting glial toxicity or neuroprotective pathways.
