Description

Rat Brain Striatum Neurons are primary postmitotic neurons isolated from the striatal region of neonatal rat brains under sterile conditions. Striatal neurons typically exhibit a multipolar or fusiform appearance with extensive neurite outgrowth. Functionally, they are involved in the regulation of motor coordination and cognitive processes through dopaminergic and glutamatergic signaling. These neurons are particularly vulnerable in neurodegenerative disorders such as Huntington's and Parkinson's diseases. They express neuronal markers like β-III tubulin and microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2). As terminally differentiated neurons, they cannot be passaged, and are sensitive to freeze-thaw cycles. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Primary rat brain striatum neurons serve as a reliable in vitro model for studying neuronal development, synaptic plasticity, and neurotoxicity. They are frequently used in research on dopaminergic neurodegeneration, glutamate excitotoxicity, and drug screening for neuroprotective compounds. This model supports investigations in Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and ischemic brain injury, offering insights into disease mechanisms at the cellular level.
