Description

Rat Brain Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells (RBVSMCs) are primary cells isolated from the cerebral vasculature of healthy rats, specifically harvested from the tunica media of brain microvessels under sterile conditions. RBVSMCs exhibit an elongated spindle-shaped morphology and demonstrate typical adherent growth patterns. Functionally, RBVSMCs play a central role in cerebrovascular tone regulation, blood-brain barrier maintenance, and vascular remodeling. These cells are critical in modeling cerebrovascular conditions such as stroke, vascular dementia, and cerebral small vessel disease. They express canonical vascular smooth muscle marker α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA). These cells exhibit limited proliferative capacity and are not recommended for extensive passaging. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • RBVSMCs provide a robust in vitro platform for studying cerebral vascular contractility, neurovascular unit function, and smooth muscle involvement in neuroinflammation. They are valuable in preclinical models of hypertension-induced cerebrovascular injury and serve as critical components in blood-brain barrier co-culture systems. RBVSMCs are also applied in screening vasomodulatory drugs, understanding oxidative stress responses, and dissecting cellular mechanisms of brain vascular pathologies, including ischemic stroke and arteriosclerosis.
