Description

Rat Colonic Smooth Muscle Cells (RCSMCs) are primary cells isolated from the smooth muscle layer of the rat colon. These cells are cryopreserved at an early passage to retain viability and native characteristics. They exhibit typical spindle-shaped morphology and adherent growth pattern. These contractile cells express key marker α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA). RCSMCs play an essential role in regulating colonic motility and maintaining gastrointestinal function. They provide a physiologically relevant model to study smooth muscle physiology and pathophysiology. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Rat Colonic Smooth Muscle Cells are widely used in gastrointestinal research to investigate smooth muscle contractility, motility disorders, and mechanisms underlying diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). They serve as an in vitro platform for studying the effects of neurotransmitters, cytokines, and pharmacological agents on smooth muscle function. RCSMCs also facilitate research into cellular signaling pathways involved in muscle proliferation, hypertrophy, and fibrosis related to colonic diseases.
