Primary rat dermal fibroblasts are commonly used as an in vitro model for investigations of skin biology, extracellular matrix dynamics, and cellular responses relevant to wound repair. They support studies of dermal regeneration, matrix remodeling, and changes in collagen deposition associated with fibroblast activation. These cells can also be applied in laboratory evaluation of bioactive compounds, tissue scaffolds, and experimental conditions that influence fibroblast behavior and responses to inflammatory stimuli. Their responsiveness to growth factors such as TGF-β and FGF enables investigation of signaling pathways associated with matrix production and fibroblast activation in culture.
