Description

Rat Kidney Fibroblasts (RKF) are primary cells isolated from the interstitial connective tissue of healthy rat kidneys. These cells exhibit a spindle-shaped morphology characteristic of fibroblasts and adhere firmly to standard tissue culture-treated surfaces. In vitro, they form elongated, contact-inhibited monolayers and exhibit robust proliferation under optimized culture conditions. Rat Kidney Fibroblasts express classical mesenchymal markers such as vimentin, fibronectin, and α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), particularly under profibrotic stimulation. They are cryopreserved at early passage to ensure phenotypic stability and optimal post-thaw viability. To ensure optimal cellular function and reproducibility, repeated freeze-thaw cycles are not recommended. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

  • Primary rat kidney fibroblasts are a valuable model for studying renal fibrosis, extracellular matrix remodeling, and interstitial inflammation. They are commonly used in research involving chronic kidney disease (CKD), diabetic nephropathy, and the fibrotic response to injury. These cells are also suitable for co-culture studies with epithelial or endothelial cells to examine intercellular crosstalk during renal injury and repair, as well as for screening antifibrotic agents in preclinical drug discovery.
