Description

Rat Liver Fibroblasts are primary cells isolated from the hepatic interstitial connective tissue of healthy rats. These cells exhibit a characteristic elongated, spindle-shaped morphology and form adherent, contact-inhibited monolayers under standard culture conditions. Liver fibroblasts play a key role in maintaining the extracellular matrix (ECM) and are involved in tissue repair and fibrotic responses. They express fibroblast-specific markers including vimentin, fibronectin, and particularly under fibrogenic stimulation. Their high metabolic activity and responsiveness to cytokines like TGF-β and IL-6 make them ideal for fibrosis-related research. Cryopreserved at early passage, these cells retain excellent post-thaw viability and stable phenotypes. For optimal performance and consistency, repeated freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Rat Liver Fibroblasts are widely used in studies of hepatic fibrosis, ECM remodeling, and liver injury response. They provide a critical in vitro model for understanding fibrogenesis, TGF-β signaling, and inflammatory pathways in liver disease. These cells are also employed in co-culture systems with hepatocytes or hepatic stellate cells to simulate the liver microenvironment, supporting applications in antifibrotic drug discovery, regenerative liver models, and hepatotoxicity screening.
