Mouse Colonic Smooth Muscle Cells from AcceGen are isolated from tissue of pathogen-free laboratory mice.
C57BL/6 Mouse Colonic Smooth Muscle Cells (CSMCs) are primary cells isolated from the colonic tissue of pathogen-free laboratory mice, serving as a robust model for C57BL/6 colon peristalsis studies. These specialized cells originate from the muscle layers of the colon wall. Following primary culture, these cells are cryopreserved. They regulate propulsive motility through calcium-dependent contractions of their circular and longitudinal layers, coordinating peristalsis via enteric neuronal input. Studies have demonstrated their involvement in chronic constipation due to interstitial Cajal cell loss, TNBS-induced colitis-associated hypercontractility, and aganglionosis in Hirschsprung’s disease models. Mouse Colonic Smooth Muscle Cells are characterized by antibodies against α-smooth muscle actin. Repeated freezing and thawing should be avoided during culture. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

C57BL/6 Mouse Colonic Smooth Muscle Cells (CSMCs) can be used as an in vitro model to study the pathogenesis of colonic motility disorders in disease conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). For example, by investigating molecular pathways like RhoA/ROCK-induced calcium hypersensitization or TNF-α-induced downregulation of Ano1 channels, these cells serve as a critical model to elucidate mechanisms of hypercontractility, impaired peristalsis, and visceral hypersensitivity, aiding the development of smooth muscle-targeted therapies for functional gastrointestinal disorders.
