GIMEN cell line, a neuroblastoma model, is widely used in neuro-oncology research, differentiation studies, and neuronal signaling pathway analysis.
GIMEN is a human neuroblastoma cell line established from a bone marrow metastasis obtained from a 42-month-old female pediatric patient diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma (subclassified as the neuroblastic, or N-type, phenotype). GIMEN cells exhibit epithelial-like characteristics, growing as polymorphic adherent monolayers in vitro. Molecular profiling reveals somatic mutations in the NF1 tumor suppressor gene and demonstrates constitutive EpCAM cell surface expression. GIMEN cells are tumorigenic and spontaneously metastatic. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

GIMEN cells serve as an in vitro model to study metastatic neuroblastoma pathogenesis in advanced pediatric cases. For example, by investigating NF1 mutation-driven RAS pathway dysregulation and EpCAM-mediated cell adhesion mechanisms, this system elucidates molecular drivers of chemotherapy resistance and spontaneous metastasis. These applications support targeted drug screening against refractory neuroblastoma and aid development of metastasis-inhibiting therapies.
