Description

Human Hair Follicular Keratinocytes (HHFK) are spindle-to-polygonal adherent epithelial cells enriched for progenitor characteristics isolated from healthy adult human hair follicles. These cells are derived from hair follicle regions enriched in keratinocyte stem cells located in the hair follicle bulge, where interplay with the mesenchyme guides morphogenesis and cyclical activation during hair growth. HHFK display high proliferative capacity compared to epidermal keratinocytes and express distinct markers such as CD34 and follicular-specific cytokeratins (CK15, CK19). Their functional phenotype, growth potential, and distinctive marker profile make HHFK valuable for hair biology, regenerative studies, and follicular differentiation research. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures and is tested to ensure it is free from contamination by HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • HHFK serve as an excellent in vitro model for studying hair follicle biology, including stem cell maintenance, differentiation, and morphogenesis in response to Wnt, Shh, and Notch pathway activation. They are used in hair regeneration and anti-hair loss research, enabling screening of hair growth-promoting agents, cytokine responses, and follicular niche factors. HHFK also support tissue engineering efforts to construct hair-bearing skin grafts and serve as models for follicular disorders such as alopecia.
