Description

Human keratinocytes from the dermis (HKER-D) are primary epithelial cells isolated from normal human skin tissue. These cells are adherent and polygonal in culture, and though keratinocytes are primarily associated with the epidermis, populations enriched for basal-layer–like keratinocytes involved in wound repair reflect the transitional basal layers involved in wound closure and re-epithelialization. HKER-D retain proliferative potential, and express cytokeratins such as K5/K14, essential for stratified squamous differentiation and epithelial barrier restoration. In vitro, these cells respond to inflammatory signals and growth factors like EGF or IL-1α, mimicking keratinocyte migration and cytokine production in skin repair processes. HKER-D provide a robust system for studying skin homeostasis, inflammation, and regenerative therapies, particularly in the context of tissue injury, graft compatibility, and epidermal-dermal interactions. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures and is tested to ensure it is free from contamination by HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • HKER-D are ideal for skin regeneration, inflammation, and wound-healing research. They support modeling of re-epithelialization, cytokine-mediated responses, and keratinocyte migration under stress or injury. HKER-D can be used in co-culture with fibroblasts or immune cells, enabling drug testing for conditions like psoriasis, contact dermatitis, or chronic wounds. Their epithelial integrity and signaling responsiveness make them suitable for screening anti-inflammatory compounds and reconstructive strategies.
