Description

Human Keratinocytes from foreskin (HKER-F) are primary epithelial cells derived from the neonatal preputial epidermis. They exhibit polygonal, adherent morphology and grow as a basal monolayer under serum-free culture conditions. These cells are widely recognized for their robust proliferation and stratified squamous differentiation potential, making them a preferred model for epidermal biology. HKER-F express basal-layer cytokeratins such as K5/K14, supporting studies on skin development and barrier formation. Their responsiveness to cytokines and UV stress mimics the behavior of native keratinocytes during inflammation and photodamage. Due to their high growth rate and consistent phenotype, HKER-F are commonly used in 3D skin reconstruction, toxicology testing, and gene editing studies. Isolated from healthy tissue and maintained at early passage, they serve as a reliable platform for epidermal research and regenerative medicine. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures and is tested to ensure it is free from contamination by HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • HKER-F are ideal for skin development, epidermal barrier studies, and 3D organotypic culture models. They are frequently used in research on keratinocyte differentiation, wound healing, UV damage, and inflammation. Due to their rapid proliferation and stable behavior, HKER-F support applications in transfection, CRISPR-based editing, and drug toxicity screening. These cells are also suited for modeling diseases like atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, or epidermolysis bullosa, and evaluating the effects of topical therapeutics or cosmetic compounds.
