Description

Human Tenocytes are specialized fibroblastic cells isolated from human tendon tissue, typically sourced from donors during orthopedic procedures. These cells represent the primary cell type in tendons and are responsible for maintaining tendon structure and function by synthesizing and remodeling extracellular matrix proteins such as collagen type I, decorin, and tenascin-C. In culture, human tenocytes exhibit an elongated, spindle-shaped morphology and grow in parallel alignment, reflecting their native tissue organization. They proliferate well under standard conditions and express tenocyte-specific markers including scleraxis (SCX), tenomodulin (TNMD), and collagen I (COL1A1). The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Human tenocytes serve as a vital in vitro model for advancing tendon biology and orthopedic research. These specialized cells enable detailed investigation of tendon development, degenerative tendinopathies, and age-related tendon dysfunction, providing critical insights into disease mechanisms and therapeutic targets. Their physiological relevance makes them particularly valuable for mechanobiology studies examining cellular responses to mechanical loading and stretch-induced signaling pathways essential for tendon homeostasis. Human tenocytes support research on extracellular matrix remodeling in fibrotic tendon disorders and facilitate screening of anti-fibrotic compounds and regenerative therapies.
