Human Umbilical Artery Smooth Muscle Cells are isolated from normal human umbilical arteries.
Human Umbilical Artery Smooth Muscle Cells, Neonatal (HUASMC) are isolated from the tunica media of umbilical arteries from healthy human donors. Cryopreserved at early passage, these cells exhibit a spindle-shaped morphology and grow as adherent monolayers. They function in regulating umbilical blood flow through contraction and relaxation, supporting fetal circulation, and contributing to vascular remodeling, with relevance to studies on preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, and neonatal vascular disorders. They express alpha smooth muscle actin (αSMA), and maintain a normal human karyotype. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Human Umbilical Artery Smooth Muscle Cells, Neonatal, act as an in vitro model to study neonatal vascular pathogenesis, such as in preeclampsia and intrauterine growth restriction. They help explore molecular pathways of vascular contraction/relaxation and remodeling, enhancing understanding of their physiological roles and pathological changes, and aiding in developing therapies for neonatal vascular disorders.
