Description

The testis is an immunologically privileged organ. The Sertoli cells, also known as supporting cells of the testis, are the primary constituent cells of the testis. During spermatogenesis and sperm maturation, they play roles in supporting, protecting, and nourishing the spermatogenic cells.They can secrete androgen-binding protein, inhibin, and other substances. The tight junctions formed between adjacent Sertoli cells constitute the main structure of the blood-testis barrier.
