MNNG/HOS Cl #5 osteosarcoma cells enable cancer research, transformation studies and tumor biology analysis with sensitivity to chemical and viral factors.
MNNG/HOS Cl #5 is a human osteosarcoma cell line derived via multiple cloning of the parental HOS line treated with N-methyl-N′-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG). These cells exhibit epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) morphology, adhere in monolayers, and exhibit high clonogenic potential. They are hypertriploid with complex karyotypes typical of transformed osteoblasts. MNNG/HOS Cl #5 cell line is tumorigenic and metastatic in immunodeficient mice, producing bone-like tumors and lung metastases. It is widely used as a model to study bone cancer progression, metastasis biology, chemotherapeutic sensitivity, and signaling pathways related to osteosarcoma. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

MNNG/HOS Cl #5 cells are used in modeling bone cancer progression, metastasis, and invasion. Their high clonogenic and tumorigenic potential makes them suitable for in vitro assays of cell migration, chemotherapeutic resistance, and signaling pathways associated with bone tumor malignancy and metastasis. These cells also provide valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms driving osteosarcoma’s aggressive behavior, aiding in the identification of potential therapeutic targets.
