CM S/Tum is a human cancer cell line established from the bone marrow of a 3-year-old male patient with congenital hypoplastic anemia (Diamond–Blackfan anemia). Its bone marrow–derived origin makes it valuable in studies of hematopoietic differentiation, proliferation, and tumorigenicity. These cells exhibit monocyte-macrophage morphology and grow in suspension. The cells are classified as tumor cells due to their ability to form tumors in immunodeficient mice. CM S/Tum serves as a model for studying bone marrow failure syndromes and tumorigenesis in pediatric hematologic diseases. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from HIV-1, HBV, HCV, syphilis, mycoplasma, fungi, yeast, and bacteria.

CM S/Tum serves as a preclinical model for bone marrow–related malignancies and aplastic anemia research. Its erythroid background supports research in hematopoietic lineage commitment, drug responsiveness, and bone marrow pathology. Researchers use it for evaluating cytotoxic agents, growth factor effects, and chemotherapy responses in a bone marrow context. The line is also suitable for genetic and epigenetic studies using STR-confirmed identity. CM S/Tum’s tumor-forming ability supports xenograft models in immunodeficient mice. Its stable adherent growth and detailed genetic profile enhance experimental reproducibility in hematologic oncology and therapeutic development studies.
