Rat Airway Smooth Muscle Cells (RASM cells) are primary contractile cells isolated from adult rat airway tissue. These spindle-shaped cells display the characteristic flattened, “hill-and-valley” morphology seen in vitro and confirm purity with high expression of α-smooth muscle actin and smooth muscle myosin. ASM cells demonstrate calcium-mediated contraction and respond to inflammatory and hypoxic stimuli through MAPK and Ca²⁺-signaling pathways, making them ideal for modeling airway reactivity and remodeling in diseases like asthma and COPD. They also produce extracellular matrix components including collagen and elastin, contributing to airway wall thickening—key features of airway remodeling. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures and is tested to ensure it is free from contamination by Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.
