Description

Rat Artery Smooth Muscle Cells (ASMCs) are primary contractile cells isolated from the thoracic or abdominal aorta of adult rats. These spindle-shaped cells exhibit the hallmark “hill-and-valley” growth morphology and express α-smooth muscle actin. They also express smooth muscle myosin heavy chain and calponin, and demonstrate functional responses to cyclic mechanical strain via integrin–ECM signaling pathways—essential for mechanotransduction research in vascular physiology. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures and is tested to ensure it is free from contamination by Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • ASMCs are widely applied in cardiovascular research models to explore the cellular mechanisms underlying vascular tone regulation, arterial remodeling, and disease progression in hypertension and atherosclerosis. Their contractile nature and phenotypic plasticity make them highly suitable for studying smooth muscle cell proliferation, migration, and extracellular matrix remodeling under pathological stimuli. These cells are also instrumental in dissecting angiotensin II–mediated signaling, calcium flux responses, and stretch-induced gene expression relevant to vascular dysfunction and therapeutic intervention.
