Description

Rat Brain Glial Cells are primary cells isolated from the cerebral cortex of rats. These glial cells represent a mixed population, including astrocytes, oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs), and microglia. Harvested under sterile conditions, the cells are cryopreserved at an early passage to maintain native morphology and biological integrity. Morphologically, astrocytes present a polygonal or stellate appearance, while microglia exhibit a branched form in vitro. Functionally, glial cells regulate synaptic signaling, maintain the blood-brain barrier (BBB) function, modulate neuroinflammation, and provide metabolic support to neurons. Studies have implicated glial dysfunction in various neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, and glioma. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Rat Brain Glial Cells serve as a robust in vitro platform for neuroscience research, enabling exploration of glial-neuronal interactions, neuroinflammatory cascades, and blood-brain barrier dynamics. They are widely used in disease modeling for stroke, epilepsy, and neurodegeneration, and in screening assays for neuroprotective or anti-inflammatory therapeutics. Their ability to recapitulate key aspects of glial signaling pathways and cytokine-mediated neurotoxicity makes them ideal for investigating disease mechanisms and interventions.
