Rat corneal epithelial cells are primarily used in studies related to corneal epithelial wound healing, ocular drug delivery, and regenerative mechanisms. RCECs are ideal for in vitro models to assess the effects of growth factors, cytokines, and pharmacological agents on corneal barrier repair and homeostasis. These cells are instrumental in assessing the cytotoxicity and efficacy of potential ophthalmic treatments for conditions such as dry eye disease, keratitis, and corneal ulcers. Additionally, RCECs are widely used in the evaluation of biocompatibility of contact lens materials and their impact on corneal epithelial health.
