Description

Rat Cornea Epithelial Cells (RCECs) are primary cells isolated from the corneal epithelium layer of healthy rats. These cells serve as a crucial model for ocular research due to their role in maintaining the integrity of the corneal barrier function, transparency, and facilitating wound healing. Following isolation, RCECs are cryopreserved at an early passage to retain their native phenotype and functional characteristics. They exhibit a polygonal to cuboidal morphology and grow as adherent monolayers. RCECs are widely used to study corneal cell regeneration, inflammation, and the effects of various treatments on corneal epithelial wound healing. RCECs express key corneal epithelial marker PCK. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Rat corneal epithelial cells are primarily used in studies related to corneal epithelial wound healing, ocular drug delivery, and regenerative mechanisms. RCECs are ideal for in vitro models to assess the effects of growth factors, cytokines, and pharmacological agents on corneal barrier repair and homeostasis. These cells are instrumental in assessing the cytotoxicity and efficacy of potential ophthalmic treatments for conditions such as dry eye disease, keratitis, and corneal ulcers. Additionally, RCECs are widely used in the evaluation of biocompatibility of contact lens materials and their impact on corneal epithelial health.
