Description

Rat Corneal Epithelial Cells (RCECs) are primary cells isolated from the corneal epithelium of healthy rats. These cells serve as a crucial model for ocular research due to their role in maintaining the integrity of the corneal barrier and facilitating wound healing. Following isolation, RCECs are cryopreserved at an early passage to retain their native properties. Murine corneal epithelial cells exhibit a polygonal to cuboidal morphology and grow in an adherent monolayer in culture. RCECs are often used to study corneal cell regeneration, inflammation, and the effects of various treatments on corneal epithelial wound healing. RCECs express key corneal epithelial marker PCK. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Rat Corneal Epithelial Cells are primarily used in studies related to corneal epithelial wound healing, ocular drug delivery, and therapeutic agent screening for eye diseases. They serve as an ideal in vitro models to assess the effects of growth factors, cytokines, and pharmacological agents on corneal repair. RCECs are widely applied in research on corneal regeneration mechanisms, cytotoxicity testing of ophthalmic drugs, and the development of treatments for conditions such as dry eye disease and corneal ulcers. Additionally, these cells are useful in the evaluation of contact lens materials and their impact on corneal epithelial health.
