Description

Rat Epidermal Keratinocytes are primary epithelial cells isolated from the epidermal layer of neonatal or fetal rat skin. These cells constitute the foundational structure of the skin barrier and are key players in wound healing, inflammation, and epidermal homeostasis. In culture, they display a characteristic cobblestone-like morphology and express epithelial markers such as cytokeratins, involucrin, and E-cadherin. Under appropriate conditions, they can undergo differentiation and stratification, mimicking in vivo skin architecture. AcceGen's Rat Epidermal Keratinocytes are cryopreserved at early passage to preserve native phenotypes and long-term proliferative capacity. To ensure consistent experimental outcomes, repeated freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Rat epidermal keratinocytes are extensively used in dermatological and skin biology research due to their physiological similarity to human keratinocytes in epidermal structure and function. They serve as robust in vitro models for investigating skin barrier formation, keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation, wound healing processes, and inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis and dermatitis. These cells are particularly useful in studying cellular responses to UV radiation, oxidative stress, and pro-inflammatory cytokines. Additionally, they are employed in toxicity testing of topical agents, screening of dermatological drug candidates, and evaluation of cosmetic product safety.
