Description

Rat Liver Sinusoidal Endothelial Cells (rLSECs) are primary cells isolated from the microvasculature of the hepatic sinusoids of healthy rats. These highly specialized cells exhibit a flattened, discontinuous morphology and adhere firmly to collagen- or fibronectin-coated culture surfaces. Unlike conventional endothelial cells, rLSECs are fenestrated and are devoid of a classical basement membrane, features that are essential for their role in filtration and exchange between the blood and hepatocytes. They express endothelial-specific markers such as CD31 (PECAM-1), LYVE-1, and Stabilin-2, as well as liver sinusoid-specific markers like SE-1 and CD32b. rLSECs actively participate in liver immunity, lipid metabolism, and clearance of waste products via scavenger receptors. Cryopreserved at low passage, these cells maintain post-thaw viability and unique sinusoidal characteristics. For optimal function, repeated freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Rat Liver Sinusoidal Endothelial Cells (rLSECs) are widely used in research on hepatic microcirculation, liver immunology, and endothelial-liver cell interactions. They provide a physiologically relevant model for studying liver inflammation, viral hepatitis entry, drug-induced endothelial toxicity, and fibrotic progression. rLSECs are also essential in co-culture systems and liver organoid models for exploring hepatic filtration, immune cell trafficking, and liver repair mechanisms.
