Description

Rat Lung Fibroblasts (RLF) are primary mesenchymal cells isolated from the interstitial tissue of healthy rat lungs. These cells display a characteristic spindle-like morphology and adhere strongly to standard tissue culture-treated plastic surfaces, forming a monolayer under standard conditions. They play a vital role in maintaining lung structure, extracellular matrix (ECM) turnover, and responding to injury or inflammation. Rat Lung Fibroblasts express mesenchymal markers including vimentin, fibronectin, and platelet-derived growth factor receptor-α (PDGFR-α). Cells are cryopreserved at early passage to retain high post-thaw viability, stable proliferation, and consistent phenotype. For best results and long-term functionality, repeated freeze-thaw cycles should be avoided. The cells undergo rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and are rigorously tested to ensure they are free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Application

  • Rat Lung Fibroblasts are widely used in pulmonary research, including studies of lung development, repair, fibrotic progression, and ECM remodeling. They are critical in modeling idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and asthma, where fibroblast activation contributes to pathological tissue remodeling. These cells are also used in co-culture systems and bioengineering applications to investigate fibroblast interactions with epithelial, endothelial, or immune cells in pathophysiological contexts.
