Rat mammary smooth muscle cells, 8-week Wistar rat.
Rat mammary smooth muscle cells (RMSMCs) are primary contractile cells isolated from mammary tissue of 8-week-old Wistar rats. These cells exhibit a typical spindle-shaped morphology and adherent growth pattern and play important roles in maintaining tissue structure and contractile function. RMSMCs express smooth muscle markers including alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA). To ensure the quality of these primary cells, repeated freeze-thaw cycles are not recommended due to the fragile nature of these cells. Each lot undergoes rigorous screening and isolation procedures, and is rigorously tested to ensure it is free of contamination from Mycoplasma, Fungi, Yeast, and Bacteria.

Rat mammary smooth muscle cells are widely used in biomedical research due to their specialized contractile function and hormonal responsiveness. These cells serve as an excellent in vitro model for studying lactation physiology, particularly the mechanisms of oxytocin-induced contraction and milk ejection. Their characteristic contractile behavior makes them valuable for investigating breastfeeding disorders, such as insufficient milk ejection or ductal dysfunction.
